  1.

Here, we can describe and compare how espionage and the Cold War in general has affected our lives and those of our family and friends. Most ordinary citizens' choices, values, or life-experiences have turned out, later, to have been more closely connected to Cold War events than it seemed at the time. I would have thought, myself, that no obvious connection existed to my own life at first.

Let's think as well about why we're posting, at a social level. A successful discussion here occurs when two or more people consider themselves to understand what the others are saying, and to have themselves been understood.

Most importantly, I'd like to encourage discussion among ourselves, as well - especially across the lines and information-gaps that defined the former eastern and western blocs.

    Best,
    Ron
