Created through the National Security Act in 1947
Key modifications
1946: Addition of the Office of Special Operations (OSO) to the CIG, by Director Hoyt Vandenberg
1947: phrasing in the National Security Act: "... such actions as the National Security Council from shall time to time direct"
1948: NSC 4/A and NSC 10/2 (the latter creating the OPC)
1958: Formal inclusion of the OPC into the CIA as the Directorate of Plans (also includes the OSO)
